Simon Turnbull wrote and illustrated his first picture book ten years ago. He made 100 photocopies at the local copy shop and sold them in independent bookstores. It was awful. Since that time he has written and illustrated seven more books, improving the production values on each. There have been black and white ones, color ones, digital ones, animated ones and now webpress and iPad ones. This is a man who loves illustrated books for kids. His idea of a great day is sitting cross legged on the floor of the kids book section in a good library.
In his spare time Simon likes to go cycling with a sketchbook and draw the world. He is, without doubt, a total drawing nerd. He has lived in Australia, South Korea and China and he likes working in the studio and taking frequent breaks to play guitar and just generally boogie around. His favorite filmmaker is Miyazaki and his favorite author is Tolstoy. His favorite color is orange and he likes swimming. Simon has a successful freelance career as a computer game artist, but his real passion is children's books.
Education
Simon has a bachelor's degree in Media Arts (animation, video production and sound design) from RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia. He also has a diploma in visual arts (drawing, painting and photography) and has certificates in web design and small business management.
